Peter Masters On the Attack

As you read this compelling polemic by Dr. Peter Masters please note that Dr. Masters, a Calvinist is writing to Calvinists and his “ministry of warning” is about the doctrinal aberrations and worldliness of Calvinists such as C J Mahaney, John Piper, Mark Driscoll, John MacArthur, Mark Dever, and Al Mohler, all of whom he (Masters) identifies by name in his article.

The Merger of Calvinism with Worldliness: An alarmed assessment by Dr. Masters of the ‘new Calvinism’ promoted among young people in the USA

Dr. Masters is on some dangerous ground here...it's hard to read him with any seriousness when he starts attacking ministries on the basis that they use drums...among many other stylistic things that can't be supported by Scripture.

It is sad, very sad, that Peter Masters has made this attack.

Unfortunately, Peter Masters, who preaches from the pulpit of Metropolitan Tabernacle, London (Spurgeon's church), has been quite mired in Fundamentalism.

Some years ago when I was in London, I visited Metropolitan Tabernacle. I made my way from the north of London to the south by way of the Tube. Despite prior knowledge of Masters' Fundamentalist streak, I had high expectations. Honestly, I sensed a pall hanging upon the worship service, not because there were no drums or praise choruses, either. The liveliness of gospel worship and of gospel preaching simply was gravely lacking. It didn't help that the sanctuary that could seat a few thousand souls was occupied by maybe a couple hundred widely scattered throughout the sanctuary. It was as if the people didn't like one another.

My experience at Metropolitan stands in stark contrast to visits to Tenth Presbyterian in Philadelphia, where they also do not use drums and praise choruses. What a difference!

Um...this is kind of polemic is not how one changes peoples minds.

Masters has managed to make everyone either mad, resentful, or disgusted.

He just has a stricter definition of "worldliness". I think he takes it past the bounds of the bible to a ludicrous degree. I guess we should stop using all technology developed by scientist who are atheists too. We all have blind spots were our personal bias hinders us from seeing what the Lord is doing.
